Do you have an Elevator Speech?
First of all, you are probably wondering what an Elevator Speech is. An Elevator Speech is simply this: If someone asked you what you do for a living in an elevator,
you need to be able to give them a concise answer and give them your business card in the time that it takes the elevator to get from one floor to the next.
So you are looking for an answer that is one or two sentences that you can say in 10 seconds or less.
Why is this important? Because in order for you to get more business, people need to know what you do and how you can help them in your area of expertise. Most people would rather do business with someone that they have already met and like instead of some random name out of the phone book.
Let's practice a little. Let's say that you are a Loan Officer, you might say something like:
"I am a Loan Officer with XYZ Mortgage Company and I work with first time homebuyers by walking them through the different options and programs that will allow them to get into a home that they have always wanted."
Or maybe you are a Realtor:
"I am a Realtor with ABC Realty Company and I work primarily in Kahala and Hawaii Kai. I am great at finding good deals and I know how to sell a home quickly in that area."
From there, the person you are talking to may either have a need for your services, know of someone who might need your services, or at the very least, will know what you do and where to turn if they are looking for help in that area of expertise. Be sure to also tell them that you have a website and direct them to it.
Not that hard right? You never know when you might be able to pick up a new client in an elevator or in line for lunch or wherever. Have your Elevator Speech and a business card ready and you will always be prepared! |
